Overview
A modern day tale of devoted friendship and the things each of us has to endure to make a valued friendship last. Spring has sprung in vibrant and colorful Under Valley. The valley is alive with wonderful creatures and tales to tell. As our story unfolds, we find an unusual pair. One is a silky orange snake, the other is a bright pink square. Their new friendship will blossom, then change, and change again. Let’s hope, for their sake, it gets better in the end.

Meet the Author and Illustrator

Craig Kunce
Hello—I’m a dad, artist, author, and educator. I’ve always been an artist who loves a good story. So it was only a matter of time before I found himself writing and illustrating books. I began creating my books to share funny stories and pass along valuable life lessons to my own children. I am pleased that other parents and children are growing to like them too. I hope my books bring families together to read, laugh, and think about wild ideas! My main goal is always a fun and engaging story. But I also want each book to gently introduce readers to important life lessons. These lessons include self-confidence, friendship, family, happiness, community, responsibility, pride, and not following the crowd.

Reviews

Author/illustrator Craig Kunce’s message about the ups and downs of a friendship particularly resonated with me. Like the best children’s books, it is written for children, yet has a message that adults can relate to. Mr. Kunce’s colorful illustrations perfectly capture the emotion of each scene. Sometimes a child is fighting with a good friend, or witnessing the marital difficulties of their parents. Over the Under, and around the Square gives adults an opportunity to talk to their little ones about their feelings – and about the nature of all relationships – in a safe and loving way. It is a hopeful message delivered in verse understandable to children – and adults. —Aviva Gittle, The Gittle List

This is a super fun book for younger kids. It is a poem, not a story which I was expecting. It is about a bird and a reptile who become unlikely friends. It highlights the ups and downs in a friendship, but shows that true friends will always be there for each other. The illustrations and vivid coloring will hold children's attention and help them to understand what the book is about by using the pictures. This book can be used to help teach about friendship as well as diversity and the importance of both. It is a short, fun read that I would use in my classroom. —Meghan Wickerham, Goodreads review
